Gustaf Lindström
“Chain / Water #1 (Water element Ghoul)”
Co-recorded the original demos alongside Tobias Forge in 2008, being Ghost's first bassist. Gustaf Lindström was Ghost's first bassist and one of Tobias Forge's closest collaborators before the band took its definitive shape. Both came from the same underground scene in Linköping, having shared time in the death metal band Repugnant, where Lindström used the alias 'Carlos Sathanas' and Forge went by 'Mary Goore'. In 2008, Lindström was the first musician to enter the studio alongside Forge to record the songs that would give birth to Ghost: 'Stand by Him', 'Prime Mover' and 'Death Knell'. It was during those sessions that Forge, upon hearing the result, decided the project should be an anonymous theater band. Lindström participated in Ghost's first six shows as bassist under the alias 'Chain' (a reference to the chain he wore around his waist, as the Ghouls had not yet standardized their alchemical symbols at that point). His period in the band was brief —from October 2010 to March 2011— and he departed for personal reasons that were never publicly disclosed. Notably, Lindström is credited as co-composer of 'Mummy Dust' (Meliora, 2015), as the song was originally conceived as a Repugnant track. He was the only Ghoul of that generation who had no legal disputes with Forge.
