Prequelle
Prequelle, released in June 2018, was Ghost's definitive leap into the mainstream. Produced by Tom Dalgety, the album takes the medieval Black Death as a backdrop to explore the inevitability of death and the transience of life. "Rats" —with its unmistakable guitar riff— became Ghost's second single to reach #1 on US rock radio, and "Dance Macabre" unapologetically proved that Ghost could write pure 80s pop. The album was nominated for the Grammy for Best Metal Album. The Prequelle era also introduced Cardinal Copia, the saga's most charismatic and humanly comical character, who would complete his narrative arc by being crowned Papa Emeritus IV at the end of the tour.
